Shared Services Health Specialist
Job Description
Shared Services Health Specialist Are you looking to start a career in municipal government? Do you have an inspection background in the food service or building sectors? If so, this may be the perfect position for you. The Shared Services Health Specialist supports the South Coast Public Health Collaborative, which includes the towns of Marion, Rochester, Freetown, Lakeville, and Westport Health Departments, to strengthen core local public health services, advance the recommendations of the 2019 Special Commission on Local and Regional Public Health, and promote healthier communities across the region. Essential Functions:

- Serve as an expert on environmental public health for the SCPHC communities.
- Perform inspections and reviews in food establishments, public buildings, parks, pools, and local fairgrounds, etc.
- Ensure compliance with state and local health codes.
- Enforce state and local public health laws, regulations and policies related to food safety, tobacco control and prevention and mosquito control.
- Provide guidance and supervision to member communities on environmental public health issues.
- Offer training and support to staff in updating environmental public health programs.
- Develop policies and procedures for environmental health programs.
- Provide regular reports to the SCPHC Board under the regular oversight of the Town of Westport Director of Public Health and/or Shared Services Coordinator.
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, health administration, social work, or related field (required).
- 3-5 years experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience (required).
- Community Health Specialist Certification (preferred).
- Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to public and environmental health (required).
- Skills in reviewing construction plans and inspections.
- Ability to be objective, fair, and analytical in judging violations, and determining compliance with applicable codes.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- ICS 100-200 & Nims/IMS 700 certifications (preferred)
- Servsafe certification (required within 3 months of hire) if not currently held.
- CPO certification (required within 3 months of hire) if not currently held.
- Soil evaluator license (required within 1 year of hire) if not currently held.
- Full-Time; Mon-Fri; 7:30am-4pm
- Occasional overtime/flexibility based on meetings, events, etc.
- $27 to $33 per hour based on qualifications and experience.
